Which Car Lessons Are Right for You?

Driving is more than just a way to get from point A to point B. It’s a skill that requires knowledge, practice, and continuous improvement. From novice drivers just starting their journey to seasoned drivers wanting to refine their abilities, everyone can benefit from additional education. But how do you know which learning program is right for you?

In this blog, we guide you through different types of driving lessons, the various class structures we offer at Stop and Go Driving School, and our array of in-car driving lesson packages.

Types of Driving Lessons

Not all driving lessons will be the right fit for your current skill level, driving history, and specific needs. To help you narrow it down, here are some of the most common lesson types you’ll encounter.

Learn-to-Drive: These lessons, like driver’s education courses, are designed for beginners that have little to no experience behind the wheel. They cover basic concepts like road signs, traffic rules, and vehicle operation. Additionally, they allow new or inexperienced drivers to practice in a safe, hands-on environment before venturing onto the road alone.

Advanced Driving Lessons: Drivers who have the basics nailed down but wish to hone their driving skills might enroll in an advanced driving course, such as defensive driving lessons. These courses often teach drivers how to handle challenging conditions like snowy weather or how to manage a vehicle breakdown.

Ticket Remediation: For those that have received a traffic ticket, there are driving lessons specifically designed to help you dismiss the ticket from your record. In most cases, drivers will be required to take a defensive driving course and learn about topics like speeding, distracted driving, and other common violations.

Mandated Learning: These are driving lessons mandated by the state, usually as a result of severe traffic violations. The goal of these lessons is to reinforce the importance of safe driving practices, promote changes in behavior, and help drivers avoid future offenses.

Class Structures

Learners can choose from several class structures according to their learning styles, needs, and availability.

Classroom: In-class lessons involve instructors teaching theoretical knowledge about driving rules, safety, and vehicle mechanics in an interactive classroom setting.

In-car: Often a component or extension of in-person lessons, in-car driving gives drivers practical, hands-on experience with a qualified instructor.

Online: For those that prefer learning at their own pace or have busy schedules, online courses can be a great option. They usually cover the same material as classroom lessons but in a flexible, self-paced format.

Choosing the Best Fit: In-Car Driving Lessons

Navigating the journey towards becoming a proficient and confident driver is unique to everyone. Whether you’re a beginner looking for introductory training or seeking comprehensive preparation for the MVD tests, we have a package that’s right for you.

The Bronze Package

Ideal for new drivers seeking supplemental training at an affordable price, Stop and Go’s Bronze package offers 2.5 hours of in-car instruction with one of our certified driving instructors to give you the practical experience necessary to build confidence on the road. While this package doesn’t include the MVD written or road test waiver, you’ll receive a certificate that can be used to help lower your insurance rates.

The Silver Package

Building on the Bronze package, our Silver option provides comprehensive in-car training, broken down into two driving lessons of 2 hours and 30 minutes each. Like the Bronze package, the Silver package covers everything from parking and basic car control to more advanced traffic scenarios like one-way streets and freeway driving. The lessons are delivered in our vehicles, offering a one-on-one learning environment with an MVD-certified trainer. Plus, as a special offer, participants receive $50 off Alive@25® course!

The Gold Package

Stop and Go’s Gold package is a more immersive and comprehensive driving experience. It consists of four driving lessons of 2 hours and 30 minutes each, covering everything from basic car control and parking to complex traffic situations. During the final driving lesson, students undergo an MVD road evaluation. Those who score at least 80 will receive a Training Completion Certificate, allowing them to bypass the road test at the MVD office and apply for their license directly.

The Platinum Package

The crème de la crème of driving instruction, Stop and Go’s Platinum package is designed to fully prepare you for both the written MVD test and the on-road driving test. This class offers comprehensive driving theory training, with the added convenience of being located next to a third-party MVD for immediate testing.

The package offers four driving lessons of 2 hours and 30 minutes each, covering virtually all aspects of driving. During the last lesson, each student undergoes an MVD road evaluation. Those who pass with a minimum score of 80 will receive a Training Completion Certificate, allowing them to bypass the MVD road test and apply for their license directly at the MVD office. Students who do not pass the road evaluation may purchase an additional lesson at a discounted rate or schedule a retest at any of our Valley locations free of charge.
